My Presentation

From Disparity to Equity: Culturally Responsive Teaching Rooted in Courage, Confidence, and Hope

I’m honored to present at the 2025 Ghana ASCD conference, where educators, leaders, and innovators gather to explore what’s next for education across Africa and beyond. In this session, I’ll be guiding participants through a practical and deeply reflective approach to culturally responsive teaching. Titled From Disparity to Equity, my presentation is grounded in a core belief: that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported, and that culturally responsive teaching must move beyond surface-level inclusion to something more transformational.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will explore:

  • Translate culturally responsive teaching into daily classroom decisions using my I-CRT framework

  • Strengthen student engagement through intentional learning tasks that match student strengths and needs

  • Guide reflection and reasoning through strategic moments of pause during instruction

  • Respond to learning disparities with culturally grounded approaches tailored to real-world classroom scenarios

  • How to shift school culture using the values of Courage, Confidence, and Hope

Using real-world examples, including the journey of a Ghanaian student navigating cultural disconnect, I’ll share tools for honoring student voice and lived experience. Educators will engage in collaborative case study work, self-reflection, and action planning. Attendees will walk away with ready-to-use strategies, printable resources, and the mindset needed to create inclusive, high-impact classrooms, whether they’re teaching in Accra or New York.

Why It Matters

As global conversations around equity and inclusion continue to evolve, Ghana is uniquely positioned to lead the way with approaches that are both culturally grounded and globally relevant. This session speaks to the heart of that mission, equipping educators with tools that reflect the full humanity of their students. Whether you are a classroom teacher, instructional coach, or school leader, this session will challenge you to rethink your role and reimagine what is possible when you teach from a place of courage, confidence, and hope.

Why is Ghana uniquely positioned?
