Anansi Stories
Wisdom. Wit. Wonder.
Anansi Stories is a growing collection of culturally grounded tales that reintroduce the legendary West African trickster, Anansi the Spider, to today’s learners through an educational lens. These stories honor Ghanaian oral tradition while building modern connections to character education, social-emotional learning (SEL), and critical thinking.
In The Brew School, Anansi is more than a trickster, he is a thinking partner, a mirror, and a catalyst. His cleverness sparks inquiry. His flaws prompt reflection. His stories invite students to question, discuss, and learn not just what happened, but why it matters.
Through retellings and original narratives, each Anansi story in this series helps children:
-
Explore themes like responsibility, honesty, problem-solving, and self-awareness
-
Develop vocabulary, oral language, and inferencing skills
-
Recognize the consequences of choices and the power of perspective
-
Connect cultural stories to classroom concepts through guided discussion and reflection
These tales are designed for children ages 4–10, with developmentally appropriate storytelling, discussion prompts, and companion resources that support I-CRT practices. Whether used in a read-aloud, a character lesson, or a literacy block, Anansi Stories bring joy, complexity, and wisdom into every learning space.
