More About Me
Akwaaba!
Akwaaba means "Welcome" in the Twi Language (Ghana)
Hi, I’m Jacqueline Ward-Brew—an educator, school leader, curriculum developer, and founder who wears many hats but carries one vision: to nurture the brilliance of every child and equip the educators who guide them.

A Journey Rooted in Two Worlds
Born in Ghana and raised in the U.S. since the age of five, my perspective blends the best of both cultures. I bring the confidence shaped by my American education and the resilience rooted in my Ghanaian upbringing. This dual lens shapes everything I do, from the frameworks I design to the classrooms I serve.
My Experience
For 11 years, I taught in the classroom with curiosity, structure, and heart. For the past 4 years, I’ve served as an Assistant Principal, building systems, mentoring teachers, and leading instructional change. I know what it takes to support students, and those who teach them. Now, I’m excited to embark on a new role as the ELA Curriculum Specialist for my school, where I will lead the design, alignment, and implementation of high-quality, standards-based literacy instruction across K–5. This role deepens my work in curriculum development and instructional leadership; two areas I’ve been passionate about for years. This next phase allows me to continue doing the work I love, developing strong teaching practices, supporting reading achievement, and building a culture of equity and excellence. The knowledge and experience I’m gaining continue to shape my broader commitment to education, both locally and globally
Building More Than Classrooms
I’m the founder of Abura Kids International, a nonprofit committed to expanding access to quality early childhood education and community improvement in Ghana. Our long-term vision includes building Abura Kids International School, a model lab school grounded in courage, confidence, and hope. It will be a place where children, families, and communities grow together.
I-CRT: A Framework With Heart
To support both students and educators, I created the I-CRT Framework (Individualized Culturally Responsive Teaching), a practical, relationship-based approach designed to help teachers see, value, and respond to the individual needs of every learner. I-CRT is very personal to me, it is my passion project. I built it in service and honor of my younger self and for every child who deserves to feel seen and understood.
Mama Brew’s Classroom
Through my Teachers Pay Teachers store, Mama Brew’s Classroom, I design resources that are research-based, culturally relevant, and easy to implement. These include decodable books, SEL activities, executive function tools, critical thinking routines, and interdisciplinary units. Each resource is created with a simple mission: to grow hearts, grow minds, and grow futures.
In My Spare Time...
When I’m not working in school, I’m still working for children. I spend my free time developing educational materials for Abura Kids International, writing Ghanaian folktale-inspired stories (like Anansi the Spider), and creating culturally affirming classroom tools. Whether it’s through stories, poems, or flipbooks, I believe children deserve to see themselves reflected in the pages they turn.
Consulting With Purpose
I’m in the process of launching an educational consulting business that supports schools and teachers, especially in under-resourced communities, with practical strategies for instruction, literacy, culturally responsive practices, and professional learning. My goal is to bridge the gap between theory and what works in real classrooms.
Educational Affiliations
At Mama Brew’s Classroom, we are proud to collaborate with organizations that align with our mission to promote culturally grounded, inclusive, and empowering education for all children:

They focus on empowering individuals with dyslexia and related learning differences across Africa by providing educational tools, raising awareness, and combating stigma. Their mission is to unlock the full potential of those with dyslexia, ensuring they are not marginalized in the formal education sector and labor market.
GUBA Diaspora Network (GDN)
The GUBA Diaspora Network supports diasporans and individuals of various heritages who are seeking to connect, transition, do business, or invest in Ghana. Their goal is to bridge the gap between Ghana and its diaspora, fostering opportunities in education, business, and cultural exchange.
