The Power Within Initiative

Teaching in under-resourced classrooms is not a job for the faint of heart. It's a calling that requires courage, creativity, and deep commitment, especially when you are standing in front of 50 or more students with little more than your voice, your presence, and your belief. The Power Within Teacher Initiative was born from this reality, a response to the growing number of teachers across Ghana (and the continent) who are showing up each day with passion, but without enough support.

This space was created to remind educators that they are not alone, and more importantly, that they already carry what their students need most, the power within.

After a meaningful meeting with Rosalin Abigail Kyere-Nartey, Founder of the Africa Dyslexia Organization (ADO), this initiative took on new life. Many teachers working with ADO expressed a strong desire to learn more about how to support students with dyslexia, even when formal training and resources are scarce. In response, The Power Within became a home for practical tools, encouragement, and culturally grounded strategies that help build both Individual Teacher Efficacy (ITE) and Collective Teacher Efficacy (CTE).

This section of the website is a starting point, a place for teachers to reflect, learn, and grow together. Whether you are teaching in a crowded classroom, working with a struggling reader, or simply trying to believe in your own voice again, there is something here for you.

Eban (The Fence) – An Adinkra symbol of safety, protection, and quiet strength. The Power Within draws from Eban’s meaning — offering teachers a sense of refuge and dignity in the face of challenge. Like a fence that surrounds and shields the home, this space is designed to support educators who are doing so much with so little.

Eban reflects the belief that teachers themselves can be the safe structure their students need, even without materials or ideal conditions. It honors the resilience it takes to show up every day, and keep going when it feels like no one sees the effort.

It honors the truth that even in the absence of materials, teachers themselves can be the structure, the safety, and the hope.

The Story Behind the Power Within

Serendipity. Suhum. Starbites. Support. Success.

The Power Within didn’t begin with a workshop or a whiteboard. I had been working on an initiative for some time, but I hadn’t quite landed on the right approach. After meeting Rosalin and hearing the real-life needs of the teachers in her caseload, everything became clear. This initiative would begin with them, their challenges, their strength, and their hope. It all started with one conversation, one shared meal, and the belief that teachers, especially the overlooked, deserve to be seen and supported.

"From one conversation came a movement — The Power Within.”
